Fishing tackle and gear
Fishing Rods
We recommend that fishermen bring the rods and reels they are most comfortable using. Casting and spinning setups are the most popular choices on our lakes. Medium to light action rods is ideal, offering excellent lure action and reliable hook-setting ability. While ultra-light gear can be used for added excitement once a fish is hooked, it may make setting the hook more challenging
Reels
No matter the brand or type, fishermen should ensure their reel has a smooth, reliable drag system that allows consistent line release across all settings and is easy to adjust. A jerky or hard-to-set drag can compromise your ability to land fish - and may warrant replacing the reel. Many of our guests successfully land trophy catches using light gear, thanks to properly set drag
Fishing Lures
When it comes to fishing lures, we recommend guests bring the tackle they already own and wait until arrival to see what the fish are biting. Our lodge offers a well-stocked selection of proven, popular lures. Whiles it's tempting to buy a wide variety in advance, many end up unused. Simple jig and bait rigs tipped with minnows remain a highly effective and budget-friendly choice for our waters. Spoons, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are also used, but the options are endless.
Fishing Equipment
Rain Gear - Don't Leave Without It
Good rain gear, including a waterproof coat and pants, is absolutely essential. We strongly advise guests to carry it with them every day, no matter how clear the skies appear. It's surprising how o
Sunscreen - Don't Underestimate the Sun
We strongly recommend bringing the highest SPF - rated sunscreen you can find. Sunburns can sneak up fast and hit hard - especially while fishing. You are exposed to UV rates from three angles: direct sunlight, reflection off the water, and glare off the boat.
Clothing and Essentials
We recommend packing long sleeve shirts, a good gat, and warm jackets to stay comfortable in both warm and cool weather - conditions can shift quickly, so come prepared for either. Quality polarized sunglasses are a must to protect your eyes from sun and ware glare, and they offer a big advantage when spotting fish below the surface. And don't forget a camera!
